wayforlight - Standard proposal form

Using the wayforlight Standard Proposal Form

As part of the CALIPSO programme a new standardised proposal form (SPF) and submission process has been created on the wayforlight website, which allows users to have a single entry point for submission of proposals to all of the European synchrotron and FEL facilities in the network. One advantage of such a process is that the same proposal may be submitted to several facilities and can also take advantage of the "Complementary Experiment Pilot" scheme, which, under the CALIPSO programme, offers users the possibility to submit a pair of complementary experiments to two different European facilities.

Note: None of the user personal information is held on the wayforlight website and all personal data is still protected according to the regulations of the faciltiy with which the user originally registered.

The general procedure for completing the standard proposal form on the wayforlight website is described below; please note that the requirements for submitting a proposal for beam time on ASTRID2 are slightly different and are described in detail here . The link for the wayforlight Standard Proposal form (SPF) can be found below.

  • If you have a username and password for a facility using Umbrella, login using the link at the top right of the page. If you do not have such a login you may still proceed with submission of a proposal, however your personal information will be requested by the facility to complete the proposal.
  • Fill out the Standard Proposal Form. At the top of the form you will find an option which allows "safe-editing", if this is selected then your progress will be saved every 5 seconds in the memory of the browser.
  • In order to progress to "Download proposal" and continue the submission of the proposal to a specific facility, all fields (other than the last, "Other requirements") require some input, even if that input is "n/a"
  • When the form has been successfully filled in and "Download proposal" is selected:
       1) This will initiate the download to your computer of an xml file containing all of the information you have just entered, which, depending on your browser, will either be saved automatically to a default location or you will be asked if and where it should be saved. If you wish to return to the submission process at a later time or need to make changes before submitting, then you can return to the standard proposal form page and upload this xml file using the link at the top of the page in the "Before you begin" section. You can also upload this xml file and modify it for submission to another facility.
       2) A "Next" button will appear, click on this and a new page will load listing the facilities in the network, when you select the facility you wish to submit the proposal to, you will be given further information on how to proceed with submission to that facility.

If you would like to use this method for submitting a proposal for beam time on ASTRID2 please read the information on this page first.
