The First ASTRID CD Users' Group Meeting
Thursday 29 June 2000 - 13:00 to 16:00, Room 323 Building 525
ISA, University of Aarhus, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark
Circular dichroism (CD) is a spectroscopic technique for studying the structures of molecules – particularly those of biological interest. The power of CD lies in the ability to follow folding and unfolding of molecular structure as a function of environment (e.g., pH, temperature, co-factors). The intense brightness and high energy of the synchrotron radiation produced by ASTRID (the electron storage ring at ISA, University of Aarhus) extends the usefulness of conventional CD to dynamical studies (e.g., by stop-flow) with access to lower wavelengths for novel information and better quantitative analyses. ASTRID CD is scheduled to be available for user applications in autumn 2000.
The aim of the meeting is to provide a forum to:
- describe the use of CD, particularly the advantages of ASTRID CD,
- bring together potential users of CD for exchanging research needs and ideas,
- solicit suggestions for improving the user interface and experimental capabilities,
- define a framework for designing experiments and guiding the future of ASTRID CD.
Your input is vital to help us develop a CD research facility suited to your needs!
