SRLD Workshop at ISA The meeting will be held in room 1525-323, at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Overview of the WorkshopLinear Dichroism (LD) absorption techniques using the Ultra Violet (UV) beamlines, UV1 and CD1, at ASTRID have been developed in the past few years. We would like to invite researchers with a current and possible future interest in LD to a workshop on the subject. Although the basis for this workshop is within the use of Synchrotron Radiation (SR) based Linear Dichroism (SRLD), the meeting will not be restricted to users of SR only, but we wish to invite all those with an interest in LD in the UV spectral range, to attend and contribute to the workshop. Initially the SRLD techniques at ASTRID were used to study the electronic structure of molecules by alignment in stretched plastic (LDPE) and also the properties of spider silks under stress. In 2007 experiments on bio macro molecules aligned in a Couette flow were initiated. This technique is now fully implemented at ASTRID and is currently the only SR based flow oriented LD facility in the world. We wish to cover all these subjects in the workshop, to demonstrate that LD is a valuable tool and hope to inspire both current and possible future users to use this technique.
