9th May   The AU-CD beam line has been installed on ASTRID2 and is under vacuum.
22nd April   CD1 is the final beam line to be removed from ASTRID.

2013

2nd December   First external user of ASTRID2 on the AU-UV beam line.
11th September   First User Beam. Commissioning of the AU-UV beam line starts, first spectrum recorded.
9th September The design current of 200 mA has now been stored in ASTRID2. Top-up operation at 200 mA succesful.
28th August Installation of the old ASTRID undulator (WUN131) in ASTRID2
23rd August   186 mA accumulated in ASTRID2
16th July Installation of the AMO undulator (WUN121) in ASTRID2
12th July   Closed WIG121 (Multipole wiggler) to 13 mm with beam in ASTRID2. No degredation in injectino efficiency. A small chamber alignment error prevented closure of the gap to the noiminal 12 mm.
11th July   Stable top-up operation at 90 mA. The limit is still due to high temperatures in the bumper magnets despite upgrades.
11th June   FMH111 bumper upgraded with better chamber transitions and cooling
14th May First light in a beam line. With only 1 mA of stored beam in ASTRID2 opened up the A2-UV1 beam line for initial tests.
30th April   FMH121 bumper upgraded with better chamber transitions and cooling
16th April   FMH161 bumper upgraded with better chamber transitions and cooling
6th February   The first beam line is now attached to ASTRID2. The final section of beam pipe for A2-UV1 was installed and the whole beam line is now under vacuum.
1st February   155 mA accumulated current in ASTRID2.
7th January   100 mA current stored in ASTRID2 for the first time!

2012

14th December The new 2.5m undulator for the AMO beamline was delivered
12th December   A stored current of 36 mA in ASTRID2.
2nd November The first stored beam with RF in ASTRID2! It was also possible to accummulate beam in the new ring.
10th September The official opening of ASTRID2 by Morten Østergaard, the Danish Minister for Research, Innovation and Higher Education.
7th August The electrons injected into ASTRID2 can now circulate the ring more than 1300 turns (200 microseconds).
10th July First full turn around the ring!
29th May The beam is now half way around the ring.
14th May First beam in ASTRID2.
13th May First beam through the transfer beamline.
11th May RF Cavity for ASTRID2 has been delivered and installed.
10th May The radiation wall around ASTRID2 is almost finished.
26th April   The transfer beamline between ASTRID and ASTRID2 has been completed and is under vacuum.
25th April The radiation wall starts to go up around the ring.
20th April   All of the girders for the ASTRID2 ring are now under vacuum and have been baked.
6th February   Half of the ASTRID2 ring is now under vacuum and has been baked. Section 2 bakeout was completed today, section 3 baking will start this week.

Construction

Current Status as of Friday 4th Janaury 2013: All of the ring is now under vacuum and has been baked. The RF cavity has been delivered and installed. Commissioning of the ASTRID2 ring is well underway with currents of around 30-40 mA stored.

By clicking on one of the links below you can view a video showing the construction progress of the ring. There is a short 20 second film which shows the complete construction of the ring from the beginning of 2011, when the ring hall was empty, until the ring was enclosed with a concrete wall in May 2012. The longer films show the daily progress of the construction and have been split into separate files according to year. The film for 2012 was last updated: 15th May 2012. The 2011 film shows the progress of the building of ASTRID2 throughout 2011. Some of the files are quite large.
