ISA meeting

Week 48, November 27, 2001.

Status of the ring: During the past week, the Li run has continued. There were difficulties getting the beam all the way through the beamline, so the new aperture has been taken out and enlarged. It was baked over the weekend, and yesterday, a beam was transmitted through the gas cell. Next, the metal vapour cell will be loaded, which hopefully will result in the desired Li- beam. Currents are low: we are getting used to measuring beam currents in picoamps. Next week, LHA will start, and run until Christmas. After the holidays, we go back to electrons (Electron Run 1/2002). This run starts on Monday the 21st of January 2002.

Preparations for electron run 1/2002 are going well. The kicker chamber has been opened for installation of new home made button pickups, which will enable more accurate beam position measurements.
The electron RF system is now being examined with the aim of finding the cause of our frequent RF problems during electron runs.
The first temperature sensors have now been mounted at the usual trouble spots. This should help us to avoid unscheduled beam dumps due to cooling water problems.

The EU contract has now been signed. SPM sent all of you an email last week about it. More information can be found in that email, and on our ' Call for proposals ' page on the www. Any questions should be directed to SPM.
