ISA meeting

Week 12, March 20, 2001.

Status of the ring: In spite of the unstable microtron, operation of ASTRID has been reasonable satisfactory with initial currents up to 190 mA.

Microtron: The triggering circuit for the HV modulator is being modified in an attempt
to avoid the internal double triggering that has been pestling us in the recent weeks.

It has been found that the minimum current step (last bit in the DAC) for the quadrupole supplies has a significant effect on the UV1 absorption signal. The Quadruple supplies will therefore be modified slightly tomorrow so the range of the fine control will be increased. This will allow the tunechange program to use the fine control to correct the tunes. This should eliminate the one-bit effect.

The Undulator movement will be slowed down by a factor of 4 in order to reduce the influence of other beamlines.

The Undulator beamline vacuum control is now finally under computer control and can operated remotely. The injection automation will be changed so the beamline frontend valve (VVS701) automatically will be closed at beamdump.

SX-700: A new user ground from Augborgs in Germany has been installed on the beamline, and after a successful bakeout they have started taking data.

SGM1 have now new worm gears for the manipulator.

The controls for the SGM3 experiment have been upgraded to include computer control over the electron energy analyser angles. This allows angle scans which have opened up a new range of experiments.

ELISA have after a successful run finished running biomolecules, and changed to Be- (and He-) for lifetime studies of negative ions.
