ISA meeting

Week 4, January 25, 2000.

Status of the ring: The run has started well. On the first day over 190 mA were accumulated. We hope later in the present run to investigate this first-day effect, which has been seen earlier, and which contains some potential for future current increases. Otherwise, we are back to old standards with accelerated currents of around 150 mA and already now a good lifetime (>25 h at 140 mA).

The RF system, with the second new plunger installed, works at least as well as during the last run. Some tuning of the transmitter will be done after the present run.

The beamlines are ready for the first experiments after the small changes made in the last ion period. A new zone plate for the x-ray microscope is being mounted in Göttingen.

Computing. A description of a good way to read mail while traveling has been made on http://www.isa.au.dk/documentation/Computer/email-forward.html. The link can also be found by browsing the Computer Related Documentation in the Documentation and Publication section of http://www.isa.au.dk. From home via a modem a good way of reading mails is to use an ordinary PC-mail program (like Outlook), and set the program up so it leaves the mail on the server. The cheapest way is to have Outlook perform the dial-up.
