ISA meeting

Week 5, Feb. 2, 1999.

Status of the ring: The laser cooling experiments are progressing, only slightly bothered by two minor ion source problems.
It has been seen, using the flourescent light from the laser-excited Mg+ beam on the first turn, that the beam from the separator is gaussian with a large horizontal tail and a small vertical tail. The origin is as yet unknown, but it originates presumably from the ion source/separator itself. The problem might always have existed, but the search for the origin will be pursued, as a solution to the problem would improve the beam quality for all ion users.

The new electron spectrometer for Philip Hofmann to be installed at the SGM III beamline has been acceptance tested with very good performance.

A year-2000 test of the ISA computers, and network, will be performed in week 7. More news will follow.

We remind you to give a list of your publications in 1998 for the Århus University annual report to Ruth as soon as possible and no later than 11-02-1999. Please give her a complete list, although she might have got some already. Please also include papers where you are co-author.
