ISA meeting

Week 46, Nov. 10, 1998.

Status of the ring: Most of the injection beamline is now assembled, and under vacuum. The last parts will be pumped tomorrow.
The separator is running well, and there has been beam in the first Faraday cup. There are still some work to be done on focussing the beam, but we are now mounting a flourescent beam viewer, which will make these adjustments easier.
Considering, that corner 1 has been vented during this shutdown period, the average ring vacuum is very good, about 2.5*10-11 torr.
The soft- and hardware for the heavy ion RF control has been tested, and TW reports, that everything seems to work well.In conclusion: Everything should be ready to provide beam next week.

The 1999 schedule received a few comments, especially the short spring run was criticised because beamlines are overbooked, so there will be no time for development work on either monochromators or the ring itself. More machine time on ASTRID will be necessary not only in order to improve machine performance, but also as preparation for ASTRID II.

The 1999 budget will be tighter than the one for this year, because of the increased staff. All scheduled projects will be completed, but there will not be funds for new initiatives.

The ISA User Meeting 1998 is will be held on Monday November 16. You MUST register with Ruth. Stands for the posters wil be put up on Friday so have your poster ready by then!
