ISA meeting

Week 39, Sept. 22, 1998.

Status of the ring: Since the change of o-rings in the microtron last week, it has been steadily improving. We now have very fast injection, but still some difficulty getting back to the 150 mA we had a few weeks ago. This morning, 142 mA were injected. The lifetime is good - more than 25 hours, which is a great advantage from a user viewpoint. We may also expect more stable performance now, since the positron group has ended their intense use of the microtron while the trap is being installed.

Electron extraction will be set up again soon, since the NBI group from Copenhagen has expressed a wish to come here in week 41. During the next days we will run some tests to see how much this will affect the SR beamlines.

The SX-700 is now being used by Jens Onsgaard from Odense. He and his group will use the monochromator for the next 2 weeks.

The SGM I is running very well, and is able to produce good results even at low beam intensities.

The SGM II has had beam all the way through to the exit slit. There is some slight misalignment to be taken care of. An additional wire detector will be mounted today. In addition, the entrance slit has been remounted, and pumping and baking will start today, such that it should be ready again on Thursday.

The Unduline has had some problems with a scraper in the ion beamline after the magnet. It was remounted yesterday. Otherwise everything has been working well. The second analyzer chamber is now being cleaned, and only the magnet chamber is missing.

ELISA is now running clusters. Nickel yesterday, and Silver today. It is running well, but there are still some improvements planned both for the injection beamline and machine.

The ISA ion injector is now set up in the new room, and commissioning can start soon. There is still 4½ weeks left of the electron run.

The 1998 ISA Activity Report is now being put together, but several contributions are still missing. PLEASE get them as soon as possible to nh. The deadline for contributions was a week ago!
