ISA meeting

Week 21, May 19, 1998.

Status of the ring: After the separator was cleaned last week, we resumed the HD+ run, and were able to do so successfully, except for some vacuum problems due to outgassing following the cleaning. Thursday, we attempted to run He2+, but had to give it up, since there was very little current from the separator, and the He is not being pumped very well in the ring, so the ring vacuum was poor, resulting in a very short lifetime. When the separator is moved and equipped with a longer injection beamline, we can try this ion again.
Both this and next week, we are running Mg+ for the laser cooling group. The beam will be ready late today or tomorrow.
The schedule for week 23 has been changed: The cluster run has been canceled, instead the electron cooler group will run NO++.

Open house at the university will take place on September 12 and 13 from 10:00 to 15:00 this year. During these two days, the public can come and see ASTRID etc.

The 3rd Nordic Ring Meeting 1998 will be held here on October 8 and 9. The topics are mainly related to the accelerators, not the experiments.

Welcome back to KTN, who will be here until August 1st, when he will go back to CERN.

The air conditioning in the ring hall is scheduled for installation in week 25, so hopefully the weather will not be too hot before then. In any case, it will be ready for the electron run in August, which is when the hall gets really hot.

The new microtron circulator should arrive today, and as soon as we have it, NH and LP will mount it on the microtron and try to get a nice pulse for the positron group, who are waiting for the beam.
