ISA meeting

Week 16, April 14, 1998.

Status of the ring: There has been beam every day during the Easter vacation, primarily used by the x-ray microscopy group. With the long lifetimes (>30 h) one injection in the morning has given useful beam all day for the users.
The coming week is the last of Electron Run 1/98, and on Monday morning the change to Ion Run 1/98 will start. The run is scheduled for weeks 19 - 28. The plan is copied on the back of this newsletter.

JV and KR will go to Risø on Thursday to get the hardware we are taking over from NBI ready for shipment. The largest items are two 90 deg. dipoles with supplies and two 50 kW RF transmitters. One dipole will be used for the new injection beamline, and the two transmitters will be used on ASTRID II. The hardware will be here on Friday, and it will initially be placed in the new hall.

The EBIS is now ready for an simultaneous injection/extraction test, but unfortunately one of the fast switching HV supplies broke down last week. It is now being repaired. Injection and extraction at 14 keV have been demonstrated separately.

The new Newsletter, no. 7, is now ready from the printer. It will be mailed to a large number of people and institutions, and distributed to everyone at the institute.
