Status of the ring: The two-week Mg-run ended Monday morning, and according to JSN,
everything has been working well. Monday we started running negative C60 for PHv, JUA et al.
Everything is not set up yet for the experiment, but so far it is going as planned.
ELISA is now able to store a beam for many turns. A minor timing problem was solved last
week. A fraction of the injected beam can be seen for ~1000 turns, limited by the pressure (~10-8
torr).
The EBIS is running very well. Yesterday, we had a beam through the electrostatic switch for
the first time. We are still using the rest gas in the EBIS as a source of ions. The next step is to
mount a small separator.
The microtron now has new o-rings in the main dipoles, and the vacuum looks good. It will be
started this week, and should definitively be running on Monday next week, when a group from
the ANKA-project in Karlsruhe will visit us.
The plungers for the electron cavity have been silver plated, but the plating is of a poor quality.
There are small bubbles, and the plating does not stick properly to the surface. The plating will
now be removed, and a copper plating put on instead.
Johnny Hansen will be leaving us by the end of the year. While we are sorry to lose him, we
wish him well in his new job.
The SGM motors will be back very soon, after a repair and modification has been made at the
factory in France. Some mechanical work will be necessary in order to mount them. SVH also
has a spare motor in stock now, so hopefully this will be the last we hear about SGM motor
problems.
