ISA meeting
Week 22, May 27, 1997.
Status of the ring: Last week was used for
beam positioning and laser cooling. The run
went very well, and JSN did a lot of work on
using the new quadrupole shunts for accurate
beam positioning. This was very successful, and
the correct offsets for the pickups were measured, such that we can position the beam correctly by using pickups. The problem earlier was,
that the individual position offsets were unknown.
This week, we are running Carbon clusters for
PHv, JUA et al., and so far everything is
running very well.
The connection to Faraday Cup 2 has apparently
broken, and the injection beamline will have to
be opened to fix it. This will probably be done
on Monday in week 24, when changes at corner
4 are already scheduled.
At the ISA board meeting yesterday, several
things were discussed:
There has earlier been discussions about a new
UV-beamline used for time-resolved studies,
using single bunch operation of ASTRID. These
plans are awaiting more user interest.
The ASTRID II design considerations should
continue. A more formal decision concerning
ASTRID II will be made later.
The external advisory board for ISA will meet
in November, coinciding with the next ASTRID
User meeting, which is scheduled to take place
on November 27-28.
The electron cavity is now disassembled, and will go to the workshop.
The positron beamline will be ready for initial testing with a source later this week. It will be ready for use with the microtron in about a month. The microtron should be running by then.
A new door will be made in the ring hall near
the steps to the new platform. This is necessary to gain access for equipment to the east side
of the old hall.
Furthermore, a hole for the extracted electron
beam will be made.
A corner of the 5 MeV shielding near corner
4 may be cut off at the same time. At that
point, there is now very little room for moving
equipment etc. It can be done without negative
effects on the radiation shielding.
