ISA meeting
Week 19, May 6, 1997.
Status of the ring: The changeover to Ion Run
1/97 is proceeding as planned. The cavity is
mounted and baked, and the injection beamline
and 'laser' chamber (in section 2) will be ready
for pumping today or tomorrow, such that
baking can be finished by Friday.
The separator is ready - VT has mounted an
ion source, such that initial tests of the beam for
the coming week can start Friday. We will start
running Ba- for TA & Co.
For Electron run 2/97, starting in week 32, a
number of things must be made ready. These
include:
X-ray microscope: Phase plate holder, shutter,
MCP-translator.
The undulator beamline: Mirror chamber in
front of monochromator, new 2-mirror chamber
after monochromator, Interaction chamber with
scanners, pump etc.
Electron cavity: renovation, perhaps including
new plungers, if they are ready in time.
A more powerful kicker supply will be made to
enable some experiments aimed at running a
ring (ASTRID II ? ) with negative momentum
compaction factor, which makes sextupoles
superfluous as a means to avoid the head-tail
instability.
The positron beamline will be mounted starting this week.
The Microtron needs a few changes: The new HV supply will be connected and tested. It is hoped, that this can increase the stability of the machine. Besides, the dipole coils have to be cleaned.
A new control system net has been installed by FS, and TW stresses, that ONLY control system PC's are to be connected to his net. Others should be connected to the standard net.
Our NT server is having some problems with available licenses, and TW asks that you log off the net when you do not use it. Do not map drives etc when they are not needed. There are steps being taken to improve the situation, but for the time being, do not tie up resources you do not use. If you experience problems printing etc, the computer people are unable to do anything - it is simply because too many users are using the system. All you can do is wait!
